It’s week 2 and it’s time for a ball for our queens.
This week’s mini-challenge saw the queens throwing some shade and some love that involved Marina Summers being crowned fairest maiden and biggest competition despite being a short queen, Hannah Conda as the shady lady of the bunch, and Arantxa as the neediest queen. Although Jonbers wasn’t far behind in neediest and boy did her face show how she felt, it was hilarious.
For the Happy Ending Ball, our queens had 3 looks to show off –
Lady Prince Charming
She-vil Queen
Drags to Riches Eleganza
With Drags to Riches being our first design challenge of the series the race was on for materials. The race saw my queen Choriza May grabbing all of the materials and Miss Tia Kofi avoiding green and trying to find enough material for tall and slender figure.
Our needy queen drama spilled over into the work room discussion and the drama was mild but the giggles were great with Miss Choriza being an adorably shady lady and my god I love her more and more with each passing moment.
The workroom got emotional as Tia Kofi explained the story behind her Evil Queen look and brought that into her design challenge as a dedication to the fabulous and sorely missed Cherry Valentine who we sadly lost from the world in 2022.
First up runway look Lady Prince Charming. Hannah Conda giving neon, Jonbers with 80’s pirate style, Aranxta going for a David Bowie style, Tia Kofi is a red Robin Hood and looking good, La Grande Dame is slightly giving old style ship captain crossed with air hostess, Scarlet Envy’s Charming had half his outfit stolen but still looks good, Keta gave metal and missy, Gothy brought grandma’s curtains to the runway, Marina’s Prince was from under the sea and very floaty, Choriza May is a matador Salvador Dali but camp because in her words ‘You know. Gay’
Up next She-vil Queen
Hannah Conda kept it classic evil but boy was she fabulous with it. Jonbers brought the burning flames to the runway. Arantxa was Regina George herself with her mean girls inspired look. Tia Kofi brought her dedication to Cherry Valentine and she looked sensational, a wonderful tribute with a touch of Tia-injected for good measure.
La Grande Dame went for an alien theme straight out of your nightmares, whilst Scarlet Envy is an evil Mother Earth and she rocked it. Keta entered on her pet monster with chic styling uptop, and Gothy took evil to the runways and awards show with a classic black gown. Marina was a Dugong from Filipino culture and I don’t know how she looked good in that outfit but she did. Whilst Choriza brought back the jizzing owl from season 3 and she’s all grown up as a vision of purple and black in an outfit I need to borrow for myself before disappeared in a cloud of purple smoke.
Up last were the design creations for Drags to Riches Eleganza.
Hannah had a similar colour scheme to her charming look with a mouse-covered dress which was camp and shiny and well, Hannah.
Jonbers went sparkly and poofy with her creation and Arantxa gave us a sparkly goth girl with bows on her booty and gloves.
Tia Kofi is a vision in red and we can all agree it was a real improvement from her original design challenge. La Grande Dame went for a golden gown and she created a simple but effective silhouette. Scarlet Envy was bringing Cinderella to the runway with a big poofy skirt and sleeves to bring the Disney dream to drag race.
Keta took a dark witch princess in a figure-hugging black gown adorned with a golden-sleeve come cape, whilst Gothy is Gothy no more in her pastel rainbow creation. Marina stunned in her underwater ocean mermaid creation with a big top and big bottom but a sleek body she slayed the style. Choriza May went for an ugly sister taking her owl to the ball theme but there is nothing ugly about this sister as she presents a purple creation on the runway that is adorable in its style and patterns.
Now comes our tops and bottoms with this week’s possible winners being La Grande Dame and Keta Minaj, and our bottom two being our Spanish stars Arantxa and Choriza
(I don’t know how they could betray Choriza like this either but can’t argue with Mama Ru I suppose)
The lip sync was fantastic because don’t get me wrong most/all lip sync tracks are top tier, but this time it was Everytime We Touch – Cascada and oh my teenage self came alive. We saw our queens take two different routes with their performance with Keta throwing all of the gymnastics and tricks at her performance, whereas LGD went for a over the top dramatic and comical take on the song and honestly both were fabulous but I did agree with Mama Ru on this decision as La Grande Dame won the lip sync and took her first win of the series.
Then came elimination time and I don’t think it was an easy decision for LGD (it was for me because my dearest Choriza shouldn’t have been at the bottom anyway, but I digress). As the Dame had her lipstick in hand, my heart was in my mouth until I realised that Choriza was safe and all was right.
However, Choriza being safe did mean that Arantxa Castilla La Mancha our representation from the Spanish drag race was, unfortunately, going home, and it was a real shame to see her go as I felt that she had a lot more to give the competition but in her short time on the show she did herself, her home country, and the Transgender community proud as she was true to herself and her recently discovered true drag style.
Week 2 was a rollercoaster of fairytale ball inspired chaos and what a week it was for our queens and for viewers (honestly not over Choriza being bottom she did not deserve to be there), but here’s to week 3.
I would also like to take a moment to say R.I.P to the wonderful Cherry Valentine she is a queen who will be sorely missed and never ever forgotten and love, thoughts, and prayers will forever be with those who knew and loved her. Thank you for bringing your light to such a wonderful community Cherry and rest well, your light will always shine on in the drag and LGBTQ+ community.
