It’s time for Episode 3 and we started by finding out that Keta Minaj was (in my opinion) a traitor as she revealed in Untucked that she chose the darling Choriza May’s lipstick and also Scarlet Envy suggesting she’d rid us of Choriza too. I see you ladies and honestly, if you go home now I wouldn’t be sad 🤷🏼♀️
Anyway onto a new week and a new challenge as this time the queens are in teams for the Drag Race World Immersive Experience.
Our teams this week are
Team Choriza with Gothy, and Scarlet
Team La Grande Dame with Hannah, and Jonbers
Team Keta with Tia, and Marina
Scarlet took the lead with planning for Team Choriza and early doors I quite like the ideas they are throwing out there and think this could work well for them.
Team Keta was still a little confused over their ideas so it’s a work in progress but that progress needs to be hasty as the time to plan is not long.
Hannah dropped the idea of a Disneyland-style theme for their group with each queen having her section and idea and it sounds like a good way to go.
Planning is over and it’s green screen filming time. First up is Team Choriza and it was short but sweet, in terms of what we got to see that filming and preparing, I was in agreement with Michelle Visage and being a little concerned about Kendoll’s Bukkake joke but it’s a let’s wait and see the final product moment.
Team Keta came next and we started with some painting chaos that involved a Brit crew member covered in paint and Keta Minaj as he was rolled all over the floor. This was then followed by Tia doing a short and snappy moment with the same Brit Crew member paint-free and semi-dragged up this time. We didn’t see a lot of Marina’s green screen recording prep which was intriguing and left questions as to what her section would look like.
Lastly, Team La Grande Dame and our team leader had a little difficulty getting off the blocks as she struggled to get her lines right to start with and that then led to her time running longer than it should which cut short filming time for Hannah and Jonbers. Although the girls did seem to have a chaotic struggle to get stuff done, they did seem to get it together in the end just about.
After the filming previews, it was a case of the proof will be in the editing for all of these branded advert experiences.
This week’s workroom discussion was emotional and eye-opening as the worldwide queens opened up about what life is like for a member of the LGBTQ+ community in their countries and it’s heartbreaking to hear how low down in the ‘societal hierarchy’ so many people of the community still are. To hear La Grande Dame opening up about her experiences being attacked for being herself shows how far the world still truly has to go in terms of giving everyone the basic human right of respect and being able to live life without fear of being who you are.
This week’s runway theme was RuVeal Yourself and the looks were on one hell of a scale.
La Grande Dame brought out the pretty pure white Miss France who then proceeded to urinate on herself from nerves and stress and although very odd somehow it worked. Choriza May went with a Marge Simpson-inspired look that had viewers dropping jaws and Choriza herself dropping clothes. We saw Marge go from businesswoman chic to a woman whose business was on the streets as she disrobed the glamorous pink two-piece to reveal bright yellow breasts and a bright blue bush. Honestly, I’m here for it, it was hilarious, creative and pretty stylish all in all.
Tia Kofi served us old-school RuPaul merged with modern-day Ru for her style as we saw her sport an old-school orange dress before de-robing to ruveal Ru’s 2019/20 Vanity Fair cover outfit. Marina brought volcano vibes to the Runway and from the ashes of the burnt black short dress rose a hot and steamy lava long gown that showed her fabulous figure.
Keta went from a big boxy suit that made her head look too small for her body to a slender and slim semi-sheer bodysuit that looked like it had been inspired by Ursula the sea witch. Hannah came out as a picture-perfect Pope in robes of gold and red before transforming into an emerald showgirl adorned with rhinestones and feathers.
Jonbers started in a simple pastel piece that was fit for a red carpet appearance before ripping it off to show off her golden majesty hiding underneath with sparkles and chains our Irish pot of gold looked exactly so. Scarlet came out in a big white lab almost to the floor lab coat style before popping it open to reveal a sparkly coral-coloured gown with the lab coat lining matching in the same fabric. Gothy went for something completely out of style this week as she came out in a pastel pink puffer jacket-style dress before ridding her puffy layers to display a sculpted material corset-style bodysuit with a six-pack and two baby-faced breasts (literally).
Then it was time for the final edits of the adverts.
Team Keta is up first with their Glamazonian Airlines theme. Starting in Holland we saw Keta lead the Brit crew member to a painting experience before sending him in drag to the Philippines where Marina set him to work in the rice fields to practice his walk and be fierce. After some hard work, he then finished up with Tia’s teachings on how to turn your trauma into top place and success and then sent him out into the world to put it all into practice. All in all a pretty good turnout for Team Keta.
Team La Grande Dame is up next. We saw LGD take us on a tour of her fashion life and thankfully her difficulties came together in the end as we came face to face with several fashion icons (well sort of). Hannah was up next and as always she was a laugh a minute bringing chaos and comedy with her wacky content and hilarious hijinks. Finally, Jonbers rounded things off and it was a little bit flat compared to her teammates unfortunately, it didn’t feel big or bold which may have been down to her lack of time. But, in the end not a bad effort from the girls but it may not be a complete success for all queens involved.
Team Choriza are last up starting with Scarlet giving us a classic over-the-top style host with the breathy voice and soft hosting moments you get in any good ad as she lays out what’s to come in the experience. We then head to Gothy’s tiger makeover section which went down quite well with her jack-off joke going down without any criticism from the judges. Scarlet then returned to give us a quick runway rundown on how to work it with a comedy moment and good classic content. Choriza ended off things as she welcomed us to hell and as always I will go wherever she goes and this advert certainly sells whatever she has to offer. Overall, Team Choriza brought together a great team piece and crafted arguably the most cohesive advert style creation of the three teams.
After critiques, we ended up with Tia Kofi and Scarlet Envy as our top two queens lip-syncing for the win and we had Keta Minaj and Jonbers Blonde in the bottom and facing the danger of going home.
After an outfit change our top two found themselves lip-syncing to guest judge Kim Petras’ track Future Starts Now. The final winner was Scarlet which I was surprised by because I did think Tia was better but it meant Tia didn’t have to decide to potentially send a UK queen home.
Scarlet chose to send home our Irish charm Jonbers which was weird considering she said she would choose her biggest competition and considering Keta had a win last week that would make her arguably bigger competition than Jonbers but hey ho, the game is the game.
So we say farewell to Jonbers Blonde and head forward into week 4.
